The Metuchen Farmers Market is operated by Metuchen Farmers Market Inc., an independent nonprofit created in 2018. Our mission is to foster responsible local agriculture, independent artisan producers, and healthy sustainable eating, through celebrating access to the freshness and seasonal deliciousness all around us in New Jersey.
Previously, from 2011 to 2017 the organization grew, under the umbrella of the Chamber, into a fairly large organization with between 20 and 30 regular volunteers, a board of trustees, vendor contracts, a handbook of regulations, and close cooperation with the Parking Authority, the Senior Center, the Health Department, the Police Department and the Boro Administrator. Becoming a separate corporation with all that entails (bylaws, insurance etc.), was the next step in our growth. We are happy that with our move out of the various parking lots we have occupied, and into our new beautiful location in the Town Plaza (exception 2020), the Chamber Board agreed that an independent Metuchen Farmers Market organization would be good for our future as a community.
We thank our vendors for choosing to participate in our market, showing up week after week in good weather and bad, because we know shoppers expect/look forward to seeing them, and there wouldn’t be a market without them! Also, thanks to the community members that participate during different weeks, the talented local musicians that perform for us, and the many volunteers who help create the vision and make it all possible. Final thanks go to you, the community supporters and shoppers at the Market. Every Saturday is a wonderful confluence of vendors, shoppers and events that in our greatest hopes result in an enjoyable experience that will lure you back week after week.
If you share our vision of bringing an increasingly diverse borough together over a good meal cooked with fresh local and sustainable ingredients, please see how you may be able to volunteer with the Market. Use the Volunteers tab on this website.
We also greatly appreciate donations, which can be made online or via Venmo (@MFMdonation)
